Measuring 101

The secret to a perfect fit

The biggest difference between a "DIY disaster" and a professional look is the measurement. Even a 1/8-inch error can lead to light gaps or a shade that won't roll down.

Tools You'll need

• Measuring tape: You can use a traditional steel tape measure or for more accuracy use a laser measure.
• Step ladder: Ensure you are eye-level with the top of the window.
• Paper and pen: Don't rely on memory!

Measuring for Inside Mount

1. Width: Measure the inside width at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the narrowest measurement.
2. Height: Measure from the top sill to the bottom sill at the left, middle, and right. Use the longest measurement.
3. Depth: Ensure your window frame is deep enough for the shade hardware (usually 4 inches).

Measuring for Outside Mount

1. Width: Measure the area you want to cover. We recommend adding 2 inches on each side (4 inches total) to minimize light leakage.
2. Height: Measure from where the top of the shade will be to where you want it to end (often the window sill or floor).

Pro Tip

Always record measurements as Width x Height. This is the industry standard and prevents getting your shades made "sideways."
